It is important when using behavioral or personality assessments for hiring or “positioning of people” that the filter you use to measure refects the “actual work being performed,” not simply the title of the position.
For example, there are many assessments available that have “Management” or "Manager" positions, but there is no differentiator between:
- Administrative: managing of people; think Human Resources, Customer Relations, Personnel Director
- Managing projects: Project Manager, Accountant / Controller, Strategist
- Overall managing of divisions or departments: Sales Manager, Engineering Manager, Branch Manager, Operations Manager
- Supervisors: even though they manage others, many times, they also perform the same work of those they are managing
- Size of the workforce being managed. Believe me, managing 75-plus people is way different than managing four people.
These differences do make a difference. Always be aware of the nuances of your positions and the actual work being done. Knowing this will be a huge asset in helping your assessment provider make sure you are assessing in the most accurate (reflective of work being done) and fairest capacity.
