A couple weeks ago an IT client of mine had a wonderful dilemma—two seemingly equal candidates to choose from.
I always enjoy helping people with this type of problem because most of the time it’s me sitting back and letting the hiring team compare all their gathered information while I act as a valuable sounding board.
This conversation usually resembles a “team coaching” session around:
• Interview results/questions asked–responses given
• Assessment results
• Comparing the assessment and interview results
• Additional questions for the candidates–if necessary
• Work history/experience
• Observations
This “coaching session” is a helpful way for hiring team members to hear and hopefully understand other team members’ observations and perspectives; and by lending a voice to these observations the hiring decision usually becomes obvious.
Bottomline: Two great candidates is a wonderful dilemma to have.
