Personality versus Behavior – two distinct aspects of a person which overlap but also can stand completely separate, and at times may even seem to contradict each other.
Think: the nicest person, who behaves in a totally inappropriate way..... Be it in their level of responsibility, conscientiousness, coachability, etc.
When hiring, personality will be what you experience in the interview; friendliness, sense of humor, manner of speaking, etc..... Behaviors will be the influencers of action that take place in response to outside stimulus; in other words, when the pressure is on.
Identify before the selection process begins “What kind of behaviors are necessary to be successful in the position(s) being filled?” and "What are the behaviors we need to see from this candidate six months from now, when all the new-is-through?”
